How Does The Australian Healthcare Industry work?
By employing about 14.2 percent of the total workforce, the healthcare industry is the biggest employer in Australia. The healthcare system includes both Public Healthcare as Medicare and Private.
The Healthcare Industry Australia mainly comprises medical practitioners, nurses, midwives, technical and support staff, aged and disabled care workers who work in public and private hospitals, clinics, agencies as well as provide residential care and support.
The industry is quite strict when it comes to the work requirement. Apart from educational qualification, Criminal History Checks may be required to work within this industry, for both occupational licensing or registration and by the employer while joining a job.
For the Medical Practitioners, the Medical Board of Australia can ask for a Police Check anytime at the time of registration. Nurses and midwives need to get registered before the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
AHPRA registration includes a Police Check certificate of the candidates. For the Aged and disabled carers, the service providers must perform a Criminal History check before employing them as per the Aged Care Act.
