Delivering Expert Insights in Telecom Infrastructure to Understand the Impact of 5G Implementation on HVAC Equipment Demand at Base Stations in the US and Germany

<ul><li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Client Need:</strong></span></li></ul><p style="text-align: justify;">A leading global think-tank and systems integrator in Japan approached Knowledge Ridge to understand the future impact of 5G implementation on HVAC equipment demand at base stations. This included specific questions related to the increase or decrease in demand for HVAC equipment and the factors affecting this demand. Furthermore, an understanding of the current proportion of energy consumption of HVAC equipment at cell macro sites/base stations was needed along with pin-pointed first-hand answers to questions about cooling needs at microsites, the correlation between data transmission and processing requirements at base stations. This further extended to a deep dive into first-hand perspectives from senior telecom professionals who have worked with major global telecom equipment providers on whether data processing at base stations will shift to the centralized data center with the advent of 5G in the future.&nbsp;</p><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Knowledge Ridge Solution:</strong></span></li></ul><p style="text-align: justify;">Knowledge Ridge researchers selected relevant experts from the telecom and telecom equipment spaces who have an experience in 5G implementation and setting up and operating HVAC equipment at cell site base stations in the USA and Germany. They were phone interviewed to understand their direct involvement, and were shortlisted based on their expertise &nbsp;and experience in providing a deep dive into the current proportion of energy consumption of HVAC equipment at cell macro sites/base stations, cooling needs at microsites, along with the correlation between data transmission and processing requirements at base stations. Some of these experts were SRAN Modernization Technical Support Engineers working with global telecom majors. Relevant experts who have worked on data processing at base stations and centralized data centers for 5G deployments were also selected for this engagement. Subsequently, experts were identified and shortlisted, and their biography was drafted as per Knowledge Ridge&rsquo;s phone interviewing process. The final list of experts was sent to the client for their selection.</p><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Knowledge Ridge Impact:</strong></span></li></ul><p style="text-align: justify;">Knowledge Ridge identified 14 experts from global telecom and telecom equipment majors. The client selected 11 experts and conducted hourly phone consultations with each of them. This resulted in the client gaining first-hand perspective and actionable insights into the factors affecting demand for HVAC equipment, the current proportion of energy consumption of HVAC equipment at cell macros sites/base stations, the cooling needs at microsites, and data transmission and processing requirements at USA and Germany base stations, from some of the experts.
